Wine Down Wednesday: Sauvignon Blanc

Happy Wine-Down Wednesday Winos! Today we are talking about Sauvignon Blanc. If you are new to wine, a really great place to start is a white wine since it is much more simple than a red. It is a go to wine for spring and summer since it is a light and refreshing beverage.

Tell  me about it!
Like many wines, Sauvignon Blanc is  french wine, and means "wild white." It comes from Bordeaux but is made in many different regions around the world. Sauvignon Blanc is a green skinned grape. is mostly barreled in stainless steel and is now more commonly found with a screw top rather than a cork top.

Today's Pick:

2013 Callaway Sauvignon Blanc purchased at BevMo for their "Buy One Get The Second For 5 Cents" deal which ends up being around $5-6 per bottle for two. I picked this wine specifically because of the deal and because it is fermented in stainless steel meaning it will be a brighter more fruit forward wine.

Just as my last post, this will be my first time tasting it. When I first pour it, it bubbles slightly which is a sign it is stainless steel fermented and even smells bright from the acidity. The taste is not fantastic, a tad bit boring and lacks zing. It is a solid pairing wine, best for lunch or small portions of fish and chicken. It has an alcohol percentage of 13% so if you are deep in conversation and people have already been drinking a bit, and you want to save some money on bottle number two, you can get away with sneaking this one in.

If you want to save for a sunny day I would highly recommend V. Sattui Sauvignon Blanc for $22. Yes, it is roughly four times the cost per bottle than the BevMo deal and isn't as easy to purchase since it is not sold in major retail stores, it is well worth the effort. Sometimes when it comes to wine you get what you pay for.

Cheers!
Shawntelle
